DAILY DEVOTIONAL    TUESDAY JULY 16, 2002
(Malachi 3:5)

"At that time my punishments will be quick and certain; I will move swiftly against wicked men who trick the innocent, against adulterers, and liars, against all those who cheat their hired hands, or oppress widows and orphans, or defraud strangers, and do not fear me," says the Lord of Hosts.

God will ALWAYS have the last word. One thing that is clear from reading the Bible, especially the Old Testament, is that God will ALWAYS have the last word in EVERY situation. I don't care what you are facing today, what the problem is, what the issue is, GOD WILL HAVE THE LAST WORD!  Regardless what the circumstances may look like, regardless what the situation appears to be, regardless what the issues are, regardless what man may say, it is GOD that will have the last word!

A few weeks ago when the court ruling out of the 9th circuit court of appeals ruled the phrase "under God" to be un-Constitutional, people were properly outraged. Rather than address that issue immediately, I sat back a few days to observe how people would react. I was amused by the "legal eagles" who debated the issue endlessly as to whether this was a "legal" ruling that could stand up under appeal. I was not surprised by many in the Christian community who seized on this as an angle to raise funds. A dear friend who works for a major consulting firm that actually writes the appeals for dozens of major ministries told me EVERY ONE was sending special fundraising appeals based on this issue. Overall though, I was pleased with the level of concern from the general public over this issue. That was very heartwarming.

When I did write a Devotional on this subject several days after the ruling, my response was very clear that no serious legal scholar expected the ruling made by the 3-judge panel to be upheld. Actually, within 48 hours of the ruling, the judge who wrote the majority opinion actually put a stay on his own ruling. Rather than speak about the pledge being legally changed, which was never in serious jeopardy, I used that Devotional to challenge each person to realize that 9/11, that ruling, were just warning shots that we better get serious about our relationship with Jesus Christ and quit taking the freedoms we enjoy for granted.  It was time to get busy about our Father's business! We must work while it is still light, and before the night comes!

To demonstrate how God is more than able to step in and deal with issues, I was in tears from laughing so hard last evening as I watched an exclusive interview with the mother of the child who was reported to have been harmed by having to say the phrase "under God". Michael Newdow, the man who filed the lawsuit in Federal Court, got his "standing" for his suit in Federal Court by claiming his daughter had been harmed by having to say those words. As it turns out, he fathered this child out of wedlock 8 years ago. He and the mother were never married. The mother has 100% legal custody of the child.

The mother has since become a very strong Christian. The daughter is being raised in a Christian home. Not only was she NEVER harmed by saying the phrase "under God", she has learned to love God, love her country, and WANTS to say "under God". Newdow filed this lawsuit without consulting the mother who is the legal guardian of his daughter, or his daughter. Not only did this lawsuit have ZERO chance of being upheld on appeal, it is likely that it will now be thrown out because this man committed perjury in the filing of this suit! GOD WILL ALWAYS HAVE THE LAST WORD!!!!

The application for your life today is that no matter what you are facing, no matter what you are dealing with, no matter what the circumstances may be, no matter what anyone is telling you..... GOD WILL HAVE THE LAST WORD!!! He is able to strengthen you to handle the problems, He is able to give you the answers that you need, He is able to make the crooked path straight, He is able to do above and beyond all you could ever ask of think.... OUR GOD WILL HAVE THE LAST WORD!!! There is no battle too small or too big for God. There are no issues that He can not overcome. We all get to places in our life that we simply have to make our faith real and trust God. My friend, that is not a bad place to be.

I love you and care about you so much. I will be praying for you today, that no matter what you are going through, you will exercise your faith and trust Him. Even though the storm may be raging all around you, even though it may seem like time has run out, never forget that it is NEVER over until God has spoken. Seldom does He ever move on our time schedule, but God is never too early, or too late. He is always RIGHT ON TIME! So don't let your faith waver no matter what you are dealing with today. In the end, OUR GOD WILL HAVE THE FINAL WORD!

In His love and service,
Your friend and brother in Christ,
Bill Keller
