DAILY DEVOTIONAL    FRIDAY JULY 26, 2002
(Luke 10:38-42)

As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, "Lord, don't you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!"

"Martha, Martha," the Lord answered, "you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her."

Taking time with Jesus. Often we get so busy in our day to day lives, so caught up in the hectic pace that we put ourselves through, that many days we just don't have time for Jesus. My friend, MAKE the time! You find time for other things that you want to do. MAKE time for Jesus every day. It is the most important thing that you can do, and quite honestly, you should never leave the house until you have spent some time alone with Him in prayer and in the Word of God.

After all, Jesus said, "without me you can do nothing". That is all I need to know!  Without Him, I am not capable of doing anything. Of course, we all have talents and abilities that God has blessed us with, and by the world's standards can accomplish much. But nothing that we are doing in our own strength will have any eternal significance. Are we just about building our own kingdom, and ignoring the kingdom of God? Our daily time with Jesus keeps us focused on what is important in this life. It keeps us humble realizing how much that we need the Lord in our lives each day.

I love you and care about you so much! Let me encourage you today. Take time each day to just be alone with Jesus. It is the most important thing that you can do. Use the time to bring your needs to Him, the needs of others, and use it as a time of thanksgiving for all that He has done for you. I guarantee you that your day will go better, the troubles will seem more manageable, and life will have a greater meaning. The Lord loves you so much that He has made Himself accessible to you 24/7. You don't need an appointment. You don't have to wait in line. He is actually more eager to spend time with you, than you are with Him. Please, don't take Him for granted or not take full advantage of the access that He has given you to spend time with HIM each and every day!

May your day be richly blessed, and may your daily time with the Lord be special.

In His love and service,
Your friend and brother in Christ,
Bill Keller
